OUR MISSION
The Keep Hillcrest Beautiful association is a voluntary association that aims to promote a cleaner and more beautiful environment in co-operation with the relevant authorities within Hillcrest and to raise the level of awareness of what each individual can do to improve his or her community and reduce litter.
Who are we?
Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association is a not-for-profit organization, otherwise known as an NPO which is trying to maintain the natural beauty in and around Hillcrest. We were constituted in 2006 and are registered with the Department of Welfare.
We began our existence as a result of a letter to the local Highway Mail asking for interested persons, who were keen on retaining the beauty of Hillcrest, to make contact.
Five persons answered the appeal, and they formed the core committee, who apart from one, who left due to time constraints, are still on the committee.
We modelled ourselves on the Keep America Beautiful Association, which was formed over 60 years ago by 5 businessmen who were concerned about the proliferation of litter in the USA.
Previously in the Durban area, there had existed the "Keep Durban Beautiful Association" which did sterling work in eThekwini metropolitan area. However it has since changed its name to the "Clean Communities Association" and their focus is more on education.
